And I quote:
“I don’t know; my dreams aren’t nice or easy now. I was just dreaming I was in the airport walking around with one shoe. I walked and walked and couldn’t find my shoe, so I woke up.”
Uh,...YIKES! I've heard of some pretty scary dreams, but losing a shoe certainly takes the cake. I started with a ‘aw, that’s too bad’ but soon stopped and said, ‘wow, I thought you were going to say you were being chased by a serial killer, but I can see how missing a shoe (you know, all that uneven vision from hobbling around) could be just as scary’. To be fair, he did mention that he’s also had the more basic generic ‘chased by killers’ and ‘bureaucratic spy crap’ nightmares, though it was the one-shoe dream that was worthy of a mention.
It’s sad to hear he’s not sleeping well. I’m not sure if this is a side-effect from all the meds, or perhaps something else. He hasn’t been feeling well today, and seems particularly restless, though we’ve actually backed off some of his med. I wonder if he’s in withdrawal??? He has a temperature of 99.3 -- he usually is in the 97 range -- and the shakes. Sound familiar? I’m praying to the sepsis gods that we not repeat last Thursday’s little adventure with take two: the Denver tale. Call me a whiner, but (hands on the hips) I think we’re due a break. His fever seems to be coming down after I gave him a Tylenol and wet washcloth for the neck. Will continue to keep an eye out for other signs of sepsis, which unfortunately for ol’ Craigery, look awfully similar to what he’s been battling this past month or so. How we’re so supposed to tell a sepsis vomit from a chemo/tumor vomit is beyond me. We’re waiting for Pathways to call back, which seems to be taking forever!!! We’re not in the business of taking chances, so the first sign of him tanking, it’s back to the ER we go. Forever vigilant…that’s how we roll.
More to come…
