I've grown accustomed to Jill answering Craig's phone now. So when it is in fact Craig who speaks, it throws me for a loop, his voice catches my breath. Makes you wonder when Jill found time to have a sex change since that would be more likely than reaching him. Haha. I never expect to reach him, actually, and would rather he catch up on needed sleep than chitty chat chat on the phone. Yet, I still call in the event there is a stolen moment to check in---no need for a fireside chat, just a quick how are you and I love you.
I seem to have radar for when he's just taken a pain pill too. The talks are never very long, maybe a minute before he is overcome by a pain or anti-nausea pill and needs to rest. I called him yesterday and talked briefly before he needed to lie down. Talked to Jill 20 minutes later and in mid-sentence she said, "what the? is he playing the harmonica?". We cracked up. She yelled to him, "guess the Zofran worked!". So glad he has the grit to take advantage of those times when he's feeling better, or at least just good enough.
