Urgh!
Of course things have to be difficult. It seems motor-homes/RVs are not handicap accessible (HCA). Who knew? I've found one HCA camper, but it's based outta Claremore, and they only do roundtrip. If we went with it, one of us would have to find our way back to Claremore within a week, and that'd leave us high-and-dry in Denver until we could commandeer another handicap accessible one-wayer. Denver is more the metropolis than Claremore (or the whole state of OK), so we'd have better luck securing one, but still a gamble. And we'd still need to get a Lawler outta Claremore. The Dream Foundation poo-pooed the RV idea, but said it could help with a conversion van, if only we had more time. The alternative would be to fly, which would be as expensive and we'd still need to figure out what to do with the animules. We could always jerry-rig a regular motor-home with our home-made version of a chairlift/ramp. We’re all solidly social scientists, but...how hard could it be, right??? We’ll just slap some 2x4s on and pull ‘er on up there. … And, of course, make sure there’s a crash mat should our plan H/I fail. ;) My head hurts from all the back-and-forth. We should just fly the parents, and drive the zoo ... or vice versa. ;) -- J

...or rent a u-haul and tether the moms in the back like furniture. hahaha. I kid, I kid.
ReplyDeleteThink we could fly three out of the four of you guys with an "open flight". The remaining Lawler can rent a larger vehicle, load up the cats and dogs and start the journey. What to do about mom's "flyability", though (compromised immune system, issue of walking down the airplane isle, etc). Maybe we could put her in first class so it's a shorter journey. Then the other issue remains as to what to do with the blingin animals. It's unclear how long we will be in Denver. To board them would be costly, not only to the pocket books but to their peace of mind. Can't have animals crashing in the midst of all this.
Maybe Dr. Phil can help....pfft.

Hey, we haven't thought of hot air balloons! Maybe they are "HCA". I'd say mom could be the newest member of the Elvis skydiving team, but there again..."flyability". Tste.
ReplyDeleteJill & Gang - Please let me know if I can help with airline miles. Also, do you have somewhere for the family to camp out that is more comfortable then an RV when you make it to Denver? I happen to have a house that is furnished, pet friendly and has a bedroom and bathroom on the first floor where you all could stay. Just a thought. Give me a buzz if you want - 303-241-0825. Brelle
ReplyDeletehey lawlers,
ReplyDeleteanother suggestion: maybe you could dig a river, charter a boat and sail to denver. :)
big hug from vienna. M
If you could get a motorhome/rv, assuming you could get Mary in and out of it, could you find a place to park it in Denver? It seems that would be the ideal solution because you could then take the "animules", relieving the stress of worrying about them. I'll pledge some $$$ to help pay for the thing and bet that other family members would do the same. I'm scratching my head trying to come up with other solutions to your problem with little success. I'll be watching the website . Love, Joan
